Toyota’s president Aiko Toyoda described electric vehicles are having excessive hype , noting that the electricity needed to charge the cars would strain grids and increase carbon emissions.
He mentioned that Japan would run out of electricity if all cars were running on electric power in the summer.

He told that the infrastructure needed to support a all EVs would cost Japan between $135 billion to $358 billion to build.
“When politicians are out there saying, ‘Let’s get rid of all cars using gasoline,’ do they understand this?”

Toyota has been working to develop hybrid electric vehicles and hydrogen-fueled cars. The company plans to tenfold the global sales of their fuel cell vehicle, Mirai with the second-generation Mirai.
