Despite major events across the globe being cancelled due to the worsening outbreak, Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that the Tokyo Olympic Games will go ahead as planned in July.
However, Abe also added that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will still have the final decision on whether the event will be on.

As of today, there are more than 1400 case and 28 casualties in Japan resulting from the outbreak.
The Tokyo Games is expected to cost about 1.35 trillion yen (£10.26bn), organisers said in December.
“We will overcome the spread of the infection and host the Olympics without problem, as planned,” Abe said.
