A new discovery of fine-made gold masks and other artefacts in Sanxingdui archaelogical site has sparked an online debate about the possibility of aliens visiting earth.
The Sanxingdui site is located in the central Suchuan province in China, dated back to 2,800-1,100BC (over 4800 years ago).
Over 50,000 artefacts were discovered since the discovery of the site, with the golden masks catching the attention of the public.

The non-human and foreign features of the gold masks raised speculations as to the possibility of alien life form on earth back then.
Netizens were stunned by the exaggerated look of the masks and believe that the bronze-age human civilizations around the world could not have the technology to craft such fine relics.

However, the director of the Institute of Archaeology, Wang Wei, shut down the alien theories.
“There is no chance that Sanxingdui belongs to an alien civilisation,” he said.
“It was a colourful regional culture, flourishing alongside other Chinese cultures,” he added.

The mystery remains unsolved as many other artefacts found can be easily traced to a human civilisation but not the mysterious golden masks.
