North Korea became the first country to pull out of the Tokyo Olympics due to fears of COVID-19.
The Tokyo Olympics was originally scheduled for 2020, but has been pushed to 2021.
Currently, there are still safety concerns that the 2021 Olympics could worsen the spread of the virus around the world.

A North Korea Sports Ministry-run website mentioned that the national Olympic Committee decided not to send athletes to participate.
The reason being, to protect their athletes from coronavirus.
However, the Japan’s Olympic Committee said that they have not yet been notified by North Korea.
