The Health Ministry of Malaysia confirmed that it has detected a more infection strain of COVID-19 from the 3 cases linked to the Sivagangga and Ulu Tiram cluster.
The virus strain (D614G) is said to be 10 times more infectious, and earned the reputation of a “super spreader” compared with the previous D614 strain.

However, Professor Datuk Dr Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud, an epidemiologist with Universiti Malaya, also mentions that there is no proof that the presence of the D614G mutant variant would affect the severity of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia.
He added that the situation in the country was under control and that the Health Ministry, along with other agencies, was making efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
