Mental health struggles rise; “negative emotions” at highest levels in Asia according to report

The global pandemic has changed so many things, mostly for the worse.

According to analytics and advisory company Gallup Inc, it is reported that “negative emotions” in South, East, and Southeast Asia have reached some of the highest levels ever recorded within the last decade.

In Gallup Inc’s “State of the Global Workplace: 2021 Report“, emotions ranging from “worry”, “sadness”, and “anger” have risen significantly, largely impacted by loss of income during the pandemic.

South Asia negative emotions figures

  • 43% experienced worry
  • 34% experienced sadness
  • 32% experienced anger
  • 49% mentioned their lives were affected by the pandemic “significantly”
  • 55% received less pay from employers

East Asia negative emotions figures

  • 35% experienced worry
  • 15% experienced sadness
  • 22% experienced anger
  • 37% mentioned their lives were affected by the pandemic “significantly”

Southeast Asia negative emotions figures

  • 47% experienced worry
  • 30% experienced sadness
  • 24% experienced anger
  • 42% mentioned their lives were affected by the pandemic “significantly”
  • 67% received less pay from employers
