Update (7:30PM): Najib Razak has been sentenced to 12 years in jail and fined RM210 million.
Malaysia’s former Prime Minister, Najib Razak, could be serving lots of jail time real soon.
Earlier today, the High Court of Malaysia found the former premier guilty on all 7 charges in the first series of cases involving the 1MDB scandal.
Najib Razak was charged and found guilty to all of the following:
- 1 charge for abuse of power.
- 3 counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT)
- 3 counts of money laundering involving RM42 million.
Najib could face imprisonment of up to 20 years and a hefty fine.

During the trial, thousands of Najib’s supporters gathered outside the gates of the high courts, many disappointed with the final verdict.
“I have supported him since his cases started in 2018 until now. I supported him not for the glamour or money but for the sake of ensuring a brighter future for future generations,” a supporter mentions.
In addition to the above, many of the supporters failed to adhere to social distancing rules, further adding risk to the worsening pandemic situation.
