Studio Ghibli’s iconic 1988 tale: My Neighbor, Totoro collaboration with Spanish Luxury house Loewe famed for its leather accessories, incorporates fun and familiar characters for their Loewe x My Neighbor Totoro Capsule Collection.

This collection of bags, leather accessories, and ready-to-wear items will be available this January taking inspiration from the much-loved tale of 1988.

Collaborations seem to be the trend within fashion houses using cartoon characters. It is not the first time for a major fashion house to have teamed up with favorite animated characters the last generation enjoyed growing up.

There are no such feelings of nostalgia, much like the animations we grew up with.
Gucci dropped a Mickey Mouse collection for the Chinese New Year in 2020 and launched the Doraemon collection last week. Balenciaga collaborated with Hello Kitty, and Longchamp collaborated with Pokemon. Also, the recent launch of Nike x Gremlins.

Jonathan Anderson, Loewe’s creative director, said that when he thinks of a movie that can afford him solace, it’s the movie My Neighbor Totoro. He also added that anyone who watched Hayao Miyazaki’s 1988 masterpiece could not possibly forget about it.

Aiming to send a message of dreamy serenity and creativity, the collection features iconic characters and the fantasy world they inhabited. The mischievous fuzzy dust bunnies, the adorable round Totoro were interpreted as prints, jacquard intarsia, prints, and leather marquetry.

For the ready-to-wear line, since they want to suggest a feeling of comfort, t-shirts, jumpers, hooded sweatshirts and curlottes, but also biker jackets, the shapes are relaxed and loose.
