In an effort to boost the tourism sector in Langkawi, Langkawi hotels will be waiving room fees for guests for the next 6 months.
The new change came in effective yesterday (March 4th).
This change does not mean that rooms are free, but instead tax payments charged on top of room rates will now be waived — potentially a large cost saving for tourists.
Since the beginning of the year, the number of international tourists to Langkawi have dropped significantly due to the slowing travel industry worldwide.
Hotels in Langkawi have also slashed rates by up to 70% in an effort to cover their costs.
“Hotel and restaurant operators in Langkawi have been complaining that their businesses have been affected by the declining tourist arrivals. Therefore, tourists staying at hotels in Langkawi will be exempted from paying the room fee for the next six months.”
