Two of SouthEast Asia’s largest ride-hailing firms Grab and Gojek could potentially merge, according to sources from The Information.
Citing sources, managements of the two companies are currently in serious discussions for a merger, with Grab President Ming Maa and Gojek CEO Andre Soelistyo meeting earlier this month.
The merger could put an end to the price war that’s taking place between the two companies to capture a greater share of the market for ride hailing, food delivery, and payments.
This could mean prices of overall services provided by both companies could rise significantly.
Since their inception, both companies command a valuation of $14 billion and $9 billion respectively.
The question that stands would be who controls the companies should the merger take place.
