Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 were two of the most anticipated games players were looking forward to for a 2022 release. That dream however, may be short-lived.
According to comments made during an Activision Blizzard investor presentation, both the games release dates will be delayed, and many speculate they will only be released as early as 2023.
“While we are still planning to deliver a substantial amount of content from Blizzard next year, we are now planning for a later launch for Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV than originally envisaged. These are two of the most eagerly anticipated titles in the industry, and our teams have made great strides towards completion in recent quarters. But we believe giving the teams some extra time to complete production and continue growing their creative resources to support the titles after launch will ensure that these releases delight and engage their communities for many years into the future.”
Activision Blizzard said Tuesday
Despite the mention, the company has yet to deliver an official announcement to the public, other than to say that “both games will not be released this year”.
In the investor announcement, Activision Blizzard also cited that they are working “with a new leadership in Blizzard,” which was the primary factor that contributed to the game delays.
Both Diablo and Overwatch game franchises have seen management shake-ups within the company earlier this year, mainly due to an alleged sexual harassment lawsuit taking place and Overwatch’s original director stepping down in April.
