Daimler AG (the parent company of Mercedes Benz), and Geely Holding Group (one of the largest car manufacturers in China) announced that both companies are partnering together to develop hybrid powertrain.
The new powertrains being developed could be used by Mercedes Benz and all portfolio of Geely including Volvo and Proton.

Proton is the national car brand of Malaysia established in the early 1980. Geely purchased 49.9% of Proton Cars in May 2017. Volvo Cars is 99% controlled by Geely since 2010. Seven brands are managed under the Geely Auto Group, Geely Auto, Lynk & Co, Polestar, PROTON, Lotus and Volvo Cars.

The cooperation between these 2 groups is expected to see the companies working together on hybrid powertrain solutions to enhance their global competitiveness and create true economies of scale.
However, both the companies didn’t mention which models will use the jointly developed engines.
