Scientists in China have built a revolutionary jet engine that can reach a theoretical speed of Mach 16 (16 times the speed of sound) and able to reach anywhere on earth in 2 hours.
The scientists team is led by Professor Jiang Zonglin of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The test was carried out in a hypersonic wind tunnel in Beijing and achieved Mach 9, the only capable wind tunnel to test its full potential is still under construction in Beijing.
During the test, when the engine fired up, the engine glowed like a galactic spaceship in sci-fi movies.

The scientists believe the engine could offer hope to take commercial flight to 5x the speed of sound.
